How Small Details Can Make a Big Difference

Being detail-oriented is not only a skill, but also a mindset and a habit that can help you succeed in any job. Especially when it comes to home staging. For me personally, being a home stager with more than a decade of experience and more than two thousand properties staged, nailing the little things helps me breathe new life into spaces and prepare them to look as attractive as possible for their new owners. Details are like individual brush strokes making up a larger masterpiece. And one of my recently staged properties - a house with a 1,950 sq. ft. of living space, was definitely a large enough canvas.

First, and most logically, I focused on the first impression. No more old-fashioned and worn tiles at the entrance, no more dark wood and yellowish walls. I opted for a new modern floor in light wood, fresh and white walls and ceilings to open up the spaces, white lighting to create a welcoming atmosphere and attractive lighting fixtures for a sophisticated touch – you can read all about lighting and the choices I made in the previous article.

A fresh coat of paint can make even dated interiors look new and modern so I had all the kitchen cabinets painted in white as well. Once I took care of the big and the obvious, I then turned my attention to these final touches that make a place feel like home.

  • Hang Wall Decorations

Hanging some wall art can completely transform a room, making it feel much more homely. Empty white walls can be stylish of course, but uninspiring and dull too, especially when they’re large, and in important rooms, such as  the living room and bedrooms where people spend most of their time.

  • Get Some Plants

Plants boost the mood and reduce stress. Apart from all the health benefits they can increase your home’s aesthetic appeal and make it flourish in no time.

Plants fit any room and give this warm vibe that makes you feel you can easily settle down in this place. And this is exactly what you need when selling your house.

Of course, plant selection matters. It is important to choose those that match the interior and not fill the place with many different pots. This would be a display of bad taste, not an improvement. You don’t want your home to look like your grandmother’s balcony but like a stylish and comfortable place with a rich potential for personalization.

  • Add or Renew Mirrors

Strategically placed mirrors can instantly make a space appear larger and more open. Especially when they are close to a window or lighting fixture. Mirrors are a very important interior element as they create a sense of depth and maximize the space. Consider decorating with mirrors in the same way you would add art to your walls. So, opt for pretty frames to draw attention and enhance the area.

I really believe I achieved that for the bathroom on the first floor – I got a stunning large mirror with a thin black aluminum frame that definitely made it feel bigger and lighter. It’s a modern style mirror that matches practically almost any type of room decoration and makes your space more bright. I definitely hit the target with this one.

For the master bathroom on the second floor I also got a large rectangular full length mirror with a black frame. It’s a contemporary choice - both simple and chic. It added a touch of boldness and sophistication to the interior and perfectly contrasted the freshly white coated walls and cabinets.

Thus all the bathrooms got a completely new look. In general, you should know that updates to the kitchen and bathrooms provide the highest return on investment. So it's always worth spending a little more money on these premises.

  • Change Door Handles

Interior door handles are an important component of the overall design strategy. Regardless of the fact that they are not among the main interior elements, they definitely contribute to the aesthetic appeal. The right door handles can serve as subtle yet impactful design elements.

For the interior doors, I chose simple, but stylish and comfortable handles with a black matte finish that perfectly pair with modern contemporary style interior. The combination of the white doors with the dark handles brings a classic element to the interior. It sounds slightly vintage, yet it’s modern. The white and black combination is pleasing to the eye and at the same time is unobtrusive and universal.

For the front door handle I bet on a Berlin Modisch Full Escutcheon Handle Set with the same matte black finish. The front door entry handle is the first thing that welcomes a visitor or a potential buyer of your home, therefore, it should send the right message. It should inspire a sense of security and reliability, show class and style and make buyers eager to open the door and see what comes next.

To conclude – when selling, repairing the obvious damage or replacing old furniture and flooring is a must – you can’t skip those for sure. Beautifying the rooms, however, should be the next on the agenda. Free your imagination and turn the place into a cozy home that buyers will want to live in. This way you not only give a welcoming vibe to the place but also make it unique. And it is exactly uniqueness that has attracted the human eye for millennia.
